Filipino Runners claim top spots at Subic International Marathon 2012On the Saturday afternoon of January 21 and break of dawn on Sunday of January 22, nearly 4,000 runners set foot at the lush-green and internationally accredited race course of the Remy Field of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority to be part of the 2012 Subic International Marathon (SIM). At the frontline of the event are General Sammy Tucay, Founder and Chairman of the Subic International Marathon joined the runners of the 10k event and Father Melo Diola of the DILAAB foundation joined the runners of the 21K event. The 2012 SIM was organized to support the community transformation programs of Christian Officers Reform the Police Service (CORPS) and the DILAAB Movement. The participation of both local and international runners from the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore was able to raise P120,000.00 for the programs that will benefit the street children in Olongapo and Metro Manila. Father Melo Diola received the check in behalf of CORPS and DILAAB Movement. The event saw 16 Filipino runners claim the top spots of the 10K, 21K and 42K events, as well as the cash prized that totaled to P126,000.00. Top finishers in the 42K race received cash prize, finisher medal and SIM DogTag. The event was dominated by Ryan Mendoza finishing in 3:07:04 and Jul Laiza Camposano finishing in 3:58:10, each receiving P20,000.00 cash prize. The top finishers of the 21K event also received cash prizes and 2012 SIM DogTag. The event was led by Jofill Sabado finishing in 1:20:44 and Monica Torres finishing in 1:32:52, both went home with P10,000.00 cash prize. The 10K event was easily conquered by John Leerams Chicano in 00:34:19 and Merlyn Lumagbas in 00:46:03, bagging the P 5,000.00 cash prize.
